Edmonton Oilers Form

Edmonton have gone through a string of lengthy series to reach the Stanley Cup Finals, eliminating Los Angeles, Vancouver and Dallas on the way.

The Oilers, who finished second in their division with a 49-27-6 record, split the first two games of their first-round series with Los Angeles.

They hit their stride in the third game too, winning 6-1, and backed that up with 1-0 and 4-3 victories to advance to the third round.

Edmonton’s hot run ended against Vancouver, as they traded wins for the first six games of the series before finally clinching with a 3-2 win Game 7.

The Oilers got their noses in front in the Western Conference Finals as they won 3-2 in double overtime in Dallas, but they dropped the next two to hand the initiative to the Stars.

However, they bounced back strongly from the 3-1 and 5-3 defeats, reeling off 5-2, 3-1 and 2-1 wins to book their place in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Florida have also taken part in a couple of lengthy series as they have knocked out Tampa Bay, Boston and the New York Rangers on their way to the finals.

The Panthers, who won their division with a 52-24-6 record, raced out of the blocks in the playoffs as they won their first three play-off games.

They beat Tampa Bay 3-2, 3-2 (OT) and 5-3, before responding to a 6-3 defeat to the Lightning with a series-clinching 6-1 victory.

Florida then bounced back from a 5-1 series-opening loss to Boston with 6-1, 6-2 and 3-2 wins, but needed two attempts to clinch as they rebounded from a 2-1 loss with a 2-1 victory.

The Panthers backed up that win by beating the New York Rangers 3-0 in overtime in the first game of the conference finals, only to then lose the next two meetings in overtime, 2-1 and 5-4.

They did not drop another game in that series however, booking their place in the Stanley Cup Finals with 3-2 (OT), 3-2 and 2-1 successes.

Florida were the better team in the regular season and we expect them to get ahead in this series.

The Panthers have shown that they can get the job done in a variety of different ways, and that ability to adapt can give them a big edge.
