The Panthers led the way in the Atlantic Division this season, compiling a 52-24-6 record to finish top of the standings.

They finished the regular season strong too, winning each of their final four games to enter the postseason with plenty of momentum.

Florida took that win streak to five games in their opening playoff game, beating Tampa Bay 3-2 to edged ahead.

The Panthers doubled that lead in Game 2, making it six wins in a row as they battled past the Lightning in overtime, 3-2.

Tampa Bay return home still seeking a first win in the series after suffering consecutive defeats on the road.

The Lighting booked their place in the playoffs by finishing fourth in the Atlantic Division standings with a 45-29-8 record.

However, unlike Florida they came into the postseason having seen their form cool off with four defeats in their final six regular season games.

Tampa Bay did wrap up the regular season with a win, beating Toronto 6-4, but they failed to back that up in their opening playoff game as they lost 3-2 at Florida.

The Lightning then put up a good fight in the second meeting, only to again lose 3-2 to the Panthers, this time in overtime.
