Montreal Canadiens Form

Montreal have been springing upsets since the playoffs began and knocked out favourites Vegas in the semi-finals.

The Canadiens came back from the brink against Toronto to stun the Maple Leafs in Game 7, and then swept Winnipeg in four games.

They topped those victories with a 4-2 success against Vegas that saw them win two on the road.

The Canadiens saw their seven-game win streak come to a shuddering halt as they lost 4-1 to the in Game 1, but they hit back in Games 2 & 3 with goalie Carey Price in tremendous form.

Price made 29 saves as Montreal took Game 2, 3-2, and he then racked up a series-high 43 saves as the Canadiens against won 3-2 in Game 3.

A 2-1 overtime defeat in Game 4 levelled the series, but Montreal responded in fantastic fashion to regain the series lead with a 4-1 win on the road, before clinching 5-2 in overtime in Game 6.

Jonathan Drouin (personal) remains sidelined for Game 1, and Joel Armia could sit this one out two having been listed as day-to-day due to the league’s COVID-19 protocols.

Tampa Bay Lightning Form

Tampa Bay made pretty straightforward work as they Florida 4-2 and Carolina 4-1 to make it into the semi-finals, but the meeting with New York was anything but straightforward.

The Lightning produced an uncharacteristically sloppy performance as they fell to a surprise 2-1 loss on the home ice.

They responded well with a 4-2 victory in Game 2 and then got ahead in the series for the first time with a 2-1 victory in Game 3.

Tampa missed out the chance to extend their lead as they lost 3-2 in Game 4, but their response was an emphatic one as they stormed to an 8-0 victory in Game 5 on the home ice.

That gave them the chance to seal the series with a Game 6 victory in New York, and they appeared to be on course when they took a 2-0 lead.

The Lightning squandered that lead in the third period though, and then conceded an overtime goal to lose 3-2 and set up a winner-takes-all Game 7 clash. They edged it, 1-0.

Nikita Kucherov overcame injury to appear in that victory and should be good to go here, Tampa remain without Anders Nilsson (concussion) and Marian Gaborik (back).
