New York Islanders Form

New York will aim to knot up the series in Carolina before heading back home for the next two games.

The Islanders finished with a 39-27-16 record, and ended the regular season in great form by winning eight of their last nine games.

Their run started in Philadelphia as they beat the Flyers 4-3 in overtime, and they followed that up by beating Chicago 2-1, Columbus 4-2, Nashville 2-0, New York Rangers 4-2 and Montreal 3-2.

New York’s streak was ended by a shootout defeat at the Rangers, but they rebounded immediately to end the regular season with a 4-1 win in New Jersey and a 5-4 victory at home to Pittsburgh.

The Islanders failed to keep that winning run going in their playoff opener however, losing 3-1 on Saturday.

Carolina Hurricanes Form

Carolina will be determined to double their series lead before they head out on the road for the first time in the 2024 playoffs.

The Hurricanes posted a 52-23-7 regular season record, and closed out the campaign by winning seven of their last nine games.

They began that sequence with back-to-back shutouts, beating Detroit 4-0 at home and Montreal 3-0 on the road, and then rebounded from a 4-1 home defeat to Boston by stringing together five straight wins.

Carolina beat Washington 4-2 and Columbus 3-0 at home, before heading out on the road to down Boston 4-1, St Louis 5-2 and Chicago 4-2.

The Hurricanes lost their regular season finale, 6-3 at Columbus, but bounced back in their playoff opener with a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders.
