New York Islanders at Tampa Bay Lightning Predictions & Tips

Tampa can bounce back from poor Game 1 showing to level the series.

The Lightning were not their usual selves in that loss but they have not lost consecutive home games (one after the other) this season.

That is unlikely to happen here – they can bounce back in what could be another low-scoring game.

  • Tampa Bay Lightning are 8-4 in the postseason so far
  • Tampa Bay Lightning have not lost back-to-back home games (one after the other) this season
  • 7 of Tampa Bay Lightning’s last 8 playoff games have produced -5.5 total goals
  • Tampa Bay Lightning ranked #6 in goals allowed in the regular season (147)
  • New York Islanders ranked #2 in goals allowed in the regular season (128)

Head To Head

  • Tampa Bay Lightning lead the all-time series 63-54-3
  • Tampa Bay Lightning lead the all-time playoff series 12-5

New York Islanders Form

New York have been racking up the upsets so far in this season’s playoffs, dumping out Pittsburgh and Boston to make it to the semi-finals.

They bounced back from 2-1 down to win three straight games and oust the Penguins, and they then did the exact same thing to see off the Bruins.

The Islanders are now threatening to cause another giant surprise after shocking Tampa Bay 2-1, on the Lightning’s own ice, in Game 1 of this series.

New York have now won 4 of their 6 road games in this season’s playoffs and are on a 4-game win streak going into Game 2.

Michael Dal Colle (undisclosed) and Olivier Wahlstrom (lower body) remain listed as day-to-day on the injury report.

Anders Lee (knee) and Johnny Boychuk (eye) are definitely sidelined for Game 2.

Tampa Bay Lightning Form

Defending champions Tampa Bay are facing adversity for the first time in this season’s playoffs.

While they did need 6 games to see off Florida and 5 to get the better of Carolina, the Lightning never trailed in either of those series.

They find themselves down early in this semi-final clash with New York though, having produced an uncharacteristically poor performance that saw a lack of discipline and poor decision-making.

The Lightning paid the price with a 2-1 home defeat and they have not been immune to home losses in the playoff so far – they have lost three times on the home ice.

However, they are yet to lose back-to-back home games when the second game has been played directly after the first.

They desperately need a win here though, and they will have to get it without Anders Nilsson (concussion) and Marian Gaborik (back), who remain out indefinitely.

Verdict

Tampa’s Game 1 performance was a shocker but we are likely to see repeat scenes in Game 2.

A much-improved Lightning display should get the job done and if the win is on trend, we will not see more than 5 goals.
