New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Game 3 Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

The road to the Stanley Cup looks pretty good for the Hurricanes who have a 2-0 series lead and are back at home for Game 3. They should be too strong at the PNC Arena and are tipped to win at -125 (1.80) at bet365. I am also leaning towards under 5 goals as the under has been the winning bet in five of the last six games between the Islanders and the Hurricanes.

New York Islanders Form & Team News

After sweeping the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the playoffs, the Islanders have lost the last two games where they only scored a single goal. Their defense has been solid in the series only allowing three goals but need to find a way to score.

In Game 2 the Islanders lost to the Hurricanes 2-1 where they gave the game up in the 3rd period allowing both goals. New York played great defense, shutting out the Canes in the first two periods and allowing 18 shots while they took 27.

The Islanders did kill off all three of Carolina’s power play chances and their lone goal came on the power play. Mathew Barzal lit the lamp for the only goal for the Islanders in Game 1 and Jordan Eberle had an assist. Robin Lehner gave up two goals on 18 shots in the game and he had only allowed one goal in each of his previous four starts.

The Islanders had scored at least three goals in every game in their first-round sweep over the Penguins, but have only scored one goal in the last two NHL games. They are priced at +105 (2.05) to overcome their recent scoring struggles and get a vital win on the road.

Carolina Hurricanes Form & Team News

Carolina have to be happy being 2-0 up in this series. Their defense has been great against the Islanders and they have won four in a row and six of their last seven games.

In the Game 2 win in New York, Carolina’s Warren Foegele and Nino Niederreiter
each found the back of the net. Petr Mrazek got the start in between the pipes and stopped nine of 10 shots, but was injured and Curtis McElhinney came in and stopped all 17 shots he faced.

Mrazek is listed as day-to-day and McElhinney made his first appearance in the post-season in the Game 2 win. Warren Foegele leads the Canes in the playoffs with five goals and Jordan Staal has four goals and scored the game-winner in OT in the 1-0 Game 1 win.

The Hurricanes are strong enough to avoid the fate of the defending Stanley Cup champions Washington Capitals, who they beat in the first round after losing the first two games in the series.

The Hurricanes are priced at -125 (1.80) to beat the Islanders and I think there is enough value there to warrant a bet on the hosts.

New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Head to Head

In the regular season the Islanders beat the Hurricanes in two of three games with the one loss at home. The Islanders have won five of their last six road games facing the Canes and the road team is 7-1 in the last eight games between these Eastern Conference rivals.

New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Match Up

The Islanders were the better team for two periods in Game 2 but fell apart in the 3rd. They also had a two man avantage for nearly a minute and a half and did not even get off a shot.

It’s pretty simply for New York. They have to generate offense but that’s easier said that done facing a Carolina team that only gave up one goal in the first two games of this series.

New York Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes Key Statistics

The Islanders have won their last five road games but that trend is set to end in this game. The Hurricanes have a great defense and can get the home win in another low scoring defensive battle.
