NHL Hart Memorial Trophy Betting Tips
There are some NHL Hart Memorial Trophy trends you should know before placing a bet on this market.
Winning the Stanley Cup Finals is not a guarantee for MVP honours in the National Hockey League. In fact, no player since 2004 has won both the championship and the Hart Memorial Trophy in the same season.
Center has been the dominant position to provide the winner in recent years, with four of the last six winners operating from that spot. Alternatively, no defenseman has won this award since 2000 and no goaltender has claimed it since 2015.
Winning in back-to-back seasons is difficult too – Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals was the last player to achieve the feat when he claimed the NHL Hart Memorial Trophy in 2008 and 2009.
Previous NHL Hart Memorial Trophy Winners
As you would expect, the list of players that have won the NHL Hart Memorial Trophy over the last 100 years consists of a who’s who of ice hockey.
Standing at the top of the tree is former Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings legend, Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky won the NHL’s most valuable player award a record-setting nine times during his incredible career, and between 1980 and 1989 he was the dominant force in the game, winning the trophy in seven straight seasons.
More recently, Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals won the NHL Hart Memorial Trophy in back-to-back seasons in 2007/08 and 2008/09, before winning it for a third time in 2012/13.
