Tampa Bay Lightning at Montreal Canadiens Predictions & Tips

Stanley Cup sweeps are rare but Tampa Bay can complete one on Monday night.

The Lightning were back to their clinical best in Game 3 and Montreal never got close to getting back into the series.

That win continued Tampa’s dominance of the Canadiens in recent years and that trend can continue here.

  • Tampa Bay Lightning are the defending Stanley Cup champions
  • Tampa Bay Lightning are 7-3 on the road in the playoffs
  • Tampa Bay Lightning's 15 playoff wins have all come in regulation time
  • Tampa Bay Lightning have won 12 of the last 13 meetings with Montreal Canadiens
  • Tampa Bay Lightning have covered -1.5 in all 3 of their wins in this series so far
  • Tampa Bay Lightning have covered -1.5 in 10 of their 15 playoff wins

Head To Head

  • Tampa Bay Lightning lead the all-time series 62-54-6
  • Tampa Bay Lightning lead the all-time playoff series 11-6

Tampa Bay Lightning Form

New York proved to be a tough nut to crack in the semi-finals, but Tampa Bay are threatening to steamroller Montreal in the Stanley Cup.

Nikita Kucherov scored twice and set up another as the Lightning ran out 5-1 winners in Game 1, with three of Tampa’s goals coming in an emphatic third-period performance.

They made it back-to-back wins in very different circumstances in Game 2 as Andrei Vasilevskiy made 42 saves and Blake Coleman scored a crucial buzzer-beating goal in a 3-1 win.

But they were back to their clinical best in Game 3 as they race to a 2-0 lead and never looked back as they wrapped up a convincing 6-3 victory.

Tampa now have an opportunity to complete a Stanley Cup sweep in Montreal on Monday night.

They could be without Alex Killorn, who missed Game 3 for ‘undisclosed’ reasons, and they will definitely be without Anders Nilsson (concussion) and Marian Gaborik (back).

Montreal Canadiens Form

Montreal came back from the brink against Toronto to stun the Maple Leafs in Round 1, and then impressive dispatched Winnipeg and Vegas to meet the Stanley Cup Finals.

They are in serious danger of being swept on the grandest of stages however.

Goalie Carey Price starred in the upset of Vegas in the semi-finals, but he was powerless to prevent Tampa Bay from running away with 5-1 Game 1 victory.

The Canadiens produced a much better showing in the second game, but they came up against an inspired goalie and it was the biggest reason that they lost 3-1.

That was not the case in Game 3 as they struggled to lay a glove on Tampa in a 6-3 defeat, and that loss means they must now win out to lift the Stanley Cup.

They will have to do it without Jonathan Drouin (personal), who remains absent.

Tampa have won the first three games and they have won by a comfortable margin each time.

Montreal should still not be slept on, but that this point it seems like it will be only a matter of time before the Lightning clinch. That time could come on Monday night.
