Max Verstappen is a slight favourite to win the F1 drivers’ championship after failing to finish the season-opening race.

Verstappen was forced out of the Bahrain Grand Prix due to a loss of power, allowing Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to complete a Ferrari one-two.

Coral is not writing off the Red Bull start after one DNF though – he is now 7/4 to retain his title.

Leclerc is now into 15/8 after taking the first race of the season, while Lewis Hamilton is 5/2 to regain the title after a third-placed finish.

"We are heading for an epic Formula 1 season, with three teams battling it out for the titles,” Coral's Harry Aitkenhead told FreeTips.com.

“Verstappen is clinging onto favouritism in the betting for the drivers’ championship, but Leclerc and Ferrari are flying and he is just behind in the title market.”

Verstappen and Leclerc are joint 6/4 favourites for this weekend's Saudi Arabia Grand Prix.

Carlos Sainz is 7/1 to take the second race of the season, with Hamilton 10/1 to get off the mark.
