2018 Aragon MotoGP Preview & Betting Tips

With six rounds remaining in the 2018 MotoGP season, we head to Motorland Aragón for the third Spanish race of the season. Honda Repsol rider extended his lead to 67 points in the Championship standings and a podium finish at Aragón will take one step closer to sealing the rider’s championship for 2018.

Andrea Dovizioso

Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso put in a superb ride to seal victory at the San Marino MotoGP. Dovizioso was 2.82 seconds faster than his nearest rival, Honda’s Marc Marquez who came in second place. Dovizioso became only the second Ducati rider to win at Misano, snapping an 11-year slip after Casey Stoner’s win in 2007.

Following the win at Misano, there’s a sense of optimism that both the Ducati’s can finish the season strongly. Dovizioso struggled at the Sachsenring and after a week of testing at Aragon, the Ducati team will be confident of continuing the run of good results.

The Italian looms as the rider most likely to challenge Marc Marquez after his 3rd victory of the 2018 MotoGP season. Dovizioso finished in seventh place in last year’s race but has been in outstanding form this season with five podium finishes.

However, Dovizioso’s poor stretch in the European season has allowed Marquez to build a 67 point lead that may prove to be unassailable despite Ducati’s late resurgence, winning the last three races.

Marc Marquez

The Honda Repsol ride could potentially lock up the World MotoGP Championship with a podium finish in Spain. Marquez finished 2.82 seconds off the pace at the San Marino GP, finishing well behind winner Andrea Dovizioso.

Honda RC213V package straight line speed was the difference at the start of the season but it appears Ducati have made significant progress over the last three races.

Marquez has been the deserved favourite to claim the MotoGP Championship this season and has built a 67-point lead, with only six races left on the calendar. Marquez has finished on pole in four of the five races at the Aragón circuit for three victories.

Marquez is the defending champion at Aragón and I’m confident that he will take a huge step towards wrapping up the World Title with a victory at the Aragón Circuit.

Jorge Lorenzo

After qualifying fastest, Jorge Lorenzo’s San Marino MotoGP came to a premature end, crashing out in the final moments of the race to hand victory to Andrea Dovizioso.

Lorenzo failed to finish on the podium in the opening five races of the season and may pay for that slow start by finishing well back in the Championship standings.

Lorenzo has finished on the podium four times this season, winning three times and finishing second. Since the break Lorenzo and Dovizioso have split the last three races and have had the straight- line speed to cause some headaches for Marc Marquez.

Lorenzo has won at Aragon in 2014 and 2015 and has the straight-line speed to push Marc Marques for the result.

Key Statistics

  • Marc Marquez has won 3 times at the Aragon Circuit with wins in 2013,2016,2017
  • Yamaha’s slump has extended to 22 races this season.
  • Marc Marquez featured on the podium 6 times in his last 6 races.
  • Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso has recorded 4 podium finishes in 2018

Marc Marquez has dominated this race, winning the last two years and I’m backing him to make it a hat trick this weekend. Turn 10 has been named in honour of Marquez and this is a track that seems made for the Honda Repsol bike.

Best Bet: Marc Marquez Win @ 2.20
