2018 Czech MotoGP Preview & Betting Tips

After a four-week, the Moto GP returns to the Czech Republic at Brno. Championship leader Marc Marquez is the clear favourite to extend his lead at the top of the Championship standings. The Spaniard has dominated proceedings in the last two races but faces competition from Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa.

Marc Marquez (1.83)

Marquez has dominated proceedings over the last two races with back to back wins in the Netherlands and Germany. He claimed his ninth win at the Sachsenring last round helping his lead blow out to 46-points over Valentino Rossi in the race to the championship.

Marquez will be celebrating his 100th Moto GP this weekend and holds the pole record of 1:54.596 at Brno. The Spaniard has only finished off the podium once in the Czech Republic in 2014 and dominated last year’s race, winning by 12-seconds from Dani Pedrosa.

Valentino Rossi (6.50)

Valentino Rossi has spent the first half of the season leading the chase against Marc Marquez. It’s been a barren run for the Professor with a Yamaha rider failing to top the podium for the last 19 races. Rossi’s 2017 victory in Assen was the last time Yamaha tasted a race victory.

Rossi finished second to Marquez in the last race before the Summer break in Germany. The second place took the Italian’s career Grand Prix total points tally to 5,994. Rossi would become the first rider in the history of the sport to break the 6,000-point barrier with a top ten finish in Brno.

Maverick Vinales (13.00)

Young Spanish rider Maverick Viñales has been the only rider outside the duo of Rossi and Marquez to secure points in every round. Viñales remains in third place in the Championship standings after finishing third in Germany

Viñales has remained consistent across the opening half of the season but has only one podium finish to his name so far. The Yamaha rider is one of the few on the grid to challenge Marquez and has the talent to finish on the podium.

Jorge Lorenzo (10.00)

Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo is one of the pre-race favourites coming into the Czech MotoGP. Lorenzo has a good record at the Brno circuit, winning in 2010 and 2015 for Yamaha.

Lorenzo is currently sitting in sixth place in the title standings and will need an improved performance to challenge Marquez.

Dani Pedrosa (8.50)

Dani Pedrosa finished in second place behind Marquez at the corresponding event last season. In his final season of MotoGP racing, Pedrosa has the experience to add to his 3 wins and 8 podium finishes on the Brno circuit.

Pedrosa was the man who put an end to Marquez’s run of ten consecutive victories at the Brno circuit in 2014 and looms as the rider who could Marquez from claiming a third straight victory.

Key Statistics

  • Honda-mounted riders have won every race at Brno since 2011.
  • A Yamaha rider hasn’t won a MotoGP in the last 19 races.
  • Valentino Rossi’s 2017 victory in Assen was the last win for Yamaha.
  • The last win by Yamaha at Brno was with Jorge Lorenzo in 2015.

Verdict

Honda rider Marc Marquez looks a class above the rest of the field and enters this race off the back of two consecutive wins. Marquez holds the pole record at the Brno circuit and won the 2017 event by 12 seconds over Dani Pedrosa.

Yamaha hasn’t finished on top of the podium for a record 19 races and Marquez is good enough to win the race from the front of the grid this weekend.
