A photo-finish isn't the rarest occurrence you'll see on race-day with multiple events per day going to the judge, but the sixth event at Doncaster overnight threw up one of the most remarkable conclusions to a race in recent memory.
The 1600m race didn't look to be anything out of the ordinary on paper but an exciting end to the event looked to be in the offing as Tom Collins, Notforalongtime, Indie Angel and Ajax Tavern moved clear of the field in order to fight out the finish.
What ensued was one of the closest finishes to a race we've seen.
As the four horses surged to the line there was nothing separating them, with the judge needed to split the quartet of runners.
After a long deliberation the judge went in favour of Adam Kirby aboard Notforalongtime, which returned at odds of 13.00 with Indie Angel 5.00 and Ajax Tavern 11.00 filling out the minor placings.
Spare a thought for those who backed Tom Collins, who firmed in from 8.00 into 6.00 before the start of the race and finished no more than a short nose away in fourth.
