We bring you the breaking news that Enable will not run in the Yorkshire Oaks at York’s Ebor Festival, with the September Stakes at Kempton her preferred target.

Ever since Aidan O’Brien announced Love would be heading to the Yorkshire Oaks, flat racing fans had been eagerly awaiting a mouth-watering clash with the great Enable.

Enable, a two-time winner of the Yorkshire Oaks, returned to top form in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, and John Gosden seemed to be looking forward to a clash with Love at the Ebor Festival.

Love has been the stand-out three-year-old of the season so far, winning the 1000 Guineas comfortably before that stunning performance in the Epsom Oaks. The bookmakers still made Enable the slight favourite in the ante-post betting for the Yorkshire Oaks, listing Enable as the 5/6 favourite.

Sadly, all that excitement and anticipation was blown to pieces this morning. Speaking exclusively to the Racing Post, Prince Khalid Abdullah’s racing manager, Teddy Grimthorpe revealed that Enable’s owner had decided to make other arrangements.

"Prince Khalid has decided that Enable's next start will be the September Stakes at Kempton on September 5.” Grimthorpe revealed on Monday morning.

"As has been stated the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe remains her main objective."

Enable's trainer, John Gosden expanded on the plan when he was interviewed later in the day.

"The Eclipse, three weeks before the King George, was perfect timing as a prep race. The Yorkshire Oaks at over six weeks before the Arc does not suit nearly so well as the September Stakes." Gosden told the Racing Post.

"We have successfully used this before as a prep race in 2018. We did not wish to travel to Longchamp three weeks before the Arc for the traditional French trials and we only wished to run her once before the Arc.

"The attempt to win a third Arc is the only reason she stayed in training this year, hence this plan."

Surprisingly, BetVictor have cut Enable’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe odds on the back of this news, cutting the two-time winner into 3/1 from 7/2.

Love is now the 1/3 favourite to win the Yorkshire Oaks, and the first Group One of the Ebor Festival has turned into a bit of a damp squib.
