Middlesbrough new favourites to win FIFA Ultimate QuaranTeam

A leading bookmaker has reported a "strong" interest in the ongoing FIFA Ultimate Quaranteam tournament, with Middlesbrough now the favourites to win the competition at time of writing.

The tournament, set up by League Two club Leyton Orient to raise money to the World Health Organisation's response to Covid-19, the EFL's chosen charity MIND and to provide vital funding for clubs affected by the postponement of football, has already raised over £50,000.

Orient's efforts to start an online tournament went viral, resulting in 128 teams around the world competing in the first edition of the charity tournament.

The clubs taking part face each other in a straight knockout format, with a winner crowned at the beginning of April.

FIFA QuaranTeam live streaming is adding to the interest in the tournament.

Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead told FreeTips.com: "We've been surprised by the number of our punters who are getting into esports at the moment at this Quaranteam tournament is creating a real buzz around esports in general.

"With quite a few professionals taking the controllers the market has moved quite quickly and it's Middlesbrough who look the strongest and have attracted the most bets."

The current ePremier league season has reached the final stage, although a live event has been suspended due to the current situation.

"We are now expecting a real surge in interest in the next ePremier League season," Aitkenhead added.

"It's just getting bigger and better, bring on the 2020/21 eseason!"

Nantes are joint-second favourites at time of writing, alongside Angers and Manchester City.
