- A Las Vegas bettor wins $137,100 from bet placed after event
- A mistake was made with the start time of baseball games
- Bettors took advantage and placed bets on the matches
Las Vegas bettors cashed in on an error from sportsbook MGM Resorts after placing winning bets amounting to almost $250,000 on events that had already started.
MGM Resorts had issued the odds for Korean and Chinese baseball with the wrong start time and up to 50 bets were placed using self-serve kiosks at the Bellagio between 1.30am and 3.00 am.
The games had actually started at 1.00am and 2.00am, leaving a number of punters to take advantage of the mistake.
The biggest of the winning bets was a 10-leg parlay with a $250 bet paying more than $137,100.
It is estimated to be the largest loss any Las Vegas sportsbook has made on bets placed on an event that had started.
According to ESPN, the Nevada Gaming Control Board is investigating the bets and the mistakes that were made to allow the bets to be placed.
The board is required to investigate over disputes on any bet winning more than $500.
“It’s happened to all of us,” Westgate sportsbook director John Murray told AP. “I think every sportsbook probably since the beginning of time has dealt with this at some point.
“We’ve had past post situations where our employees put in the wrong time or put in the wrong number or they forgot to close something. It’s manual entry and humans are going to make mistakes.”
