Shock Leeds United news as owner claims interest in Zlatan and Cavani...

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has claimed he explored options to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani during the January transfer window.

The Championship leaders, who are currently pushing for a long-awaited return to the Premier League, managed to sign Jean-Kevin Augustin on loan for the remainder of the campaign after Eddie Nketiah was recalled by Arsenal.

However, Radrizzani has revealed he held discussions to try and lure Ibrahimovich or Cavani to Elland Road, although the talks did not go far enough to get the approval of manager Marcelo Bielsa.

"I did not even discuss the ideas of Cavani and Ibrahimovic with (Marcelo) Bielsa because we had not reached that point to discuss them together," he told Sky Sports Italia.

"Bielsa works with a team of 12 scouts, they have 'their' players every window and we discuss them. Each player that has been signed is a mix between those on their list and the opportunities on the market. We always know the type of player Bielsa wants in every role and Victor Orta is in constant contact with him."

Radrizzani added: "However, the negotiation never flew. I spoke more concretely with Zlatan (Ibrahimovic). He could give us a decisive push but he decided to go to (AC) Milan. He was very honest and transparent with me."

Leeds are currently one point clear of West Brom at the top of the Championship table.
