Barcelona coach Quique Setien believes Lionel Messi will sign a new contract and end his career at Camp Nou.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested Messi has been considering a move away from Spain, following boardroom unrest, although the 32-year-old has dismissed rumours suggesting he could join Manchester City in the summer.

With 627 goals in 718 games the Argentine ace is Barca's all-time leading scorer, and has helped to fire the Catalans to an incredible ten La Liga and four Champions League titles, amongst other honours, during his hugely successful time at the club.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner, who has also been linked with Juventus and Newell's Old Boys, is out of contract at the end of next season, and although it is widely expected he will pen a new deal, the lack of concrete developments has started to worry supporters.

However, Setien, who replaced Ernesto Valverde in the Camp Nou hotseat back in January, sees little cause for concern and has backed Messi to see out his playing days in Barcelona.

Speaking to TV3, he said: "The ideal thing would be to work in a positive atmosphere. But I don't think those things will have an effect on Messi.

"We are sure he is going to continue with us and that he will finish his career at Camp Nou."
