Minnesota vs Virginia Tech Predictions & Tips

Minnesota are backed to cover as they ensure their head coach gets dunked in mayonnaise.

The Golden Gophers boast a balanced offense and a stingy defense that can lead them past a Virginia Tech team who could be weakened by opt-outs.

  • Minnesota have covered in 9 of their 12 games (1 push)
  • Virginia Tech have failed to cover in 3 of their last 4 games
  • The Over has cashed in 3 of Minnesota’s last 5 games
  • The Over has hit in 8 of Virginia Tech’s 12 games

Head To Head

  • This is the first ever meeting between the two teams

Minnesota Form

Minnesota earned themselves a Bowl Game invitation with a 7-5 record that was only a handful of plays away from being better.

The Golden Gophers lost three of their first five games of the season, including their first two Big Ten outings, but they hit a hot streak in October.

A 24-17 upset of USC sparked a four-game win streak that also saw them sandwich a 48-23 home win over Maryland with road victories at UCLA, 21-17, and ranked Illinois, 25-17.

Minnesota’s momentum then stalled in November as they suffered back-to-back defeats, losing 26-19 to Rutgers and 26-25 to top-five Penn State.

The Golden Gophers did wrap up the regular season with a win though, beating Wisconsin 24-7 last time out.

Virginia Tech Form

Virginia Tech won their regular season finale to finish with a 6-6 record and secure a Bowl Game invitation.

The Hokies went 2-2 in non-conference action before kicking off their ACC campaign with a heart-breaking 38-34 defeat at Miami.

They rallied over their next three games as they backed up a 31-7 victory at Stanford with home wins over Boston College, 42-21, and Georgia Tech, 21-6.

Virginia Tech failed to keep that run going though as they then lost three straight, falling 38-31 at Syracuse, 24-14 to Clemson and 31-28 at Duke.

The Hokies did at least finish the regular season with a win, downing Virginia 37-17 in their last outing.
