The Buckeyes opened the season with five straight wins, but suffered a setback in October when they were beaten 32-31 at Oregon.

They responded with a five-game win streak, only to see their Big Ten Championship Game hopes evaporate with a stunning 13-10 defeat at the hands of Michigan.

Ohio State rebounded in the opening round of the playoffs though, blowing out Tennessee 42-17, and they then avenged a regular season defeat by downing Oregon in the Rose Bowl, 41-21.

The Buckeyes’ postseason dominance continued in the Cotton Bowl too, as they took down Texas, 28-14, to advance to the national championship.

Notre Dame enter the National Championship Game in red-hot form, having rebounded from a shock early-season loss with 13 straight wins.

The Fighting Irish opened the campaign with a 23-13 victory at Texas A&M, only to suffer a sensational 16-14 defeat when they hosted Northern Illinois in their home opener.

That loss put them behind the 8-Ball in their quest to make the College Football Playoffs, but they responded to the adversity with a dominant run of form.

Notre Dame won 10 straight to make the postseason, and then took down Indiana in the first round, 27-17.

The Fighting Irish backed that up with a 23-10 victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, before securing a trip to the National Championship Game with a dramatic 27-24 win over Penn State.
