Minnesota Vikings at New Orleans Saints Predictions & Tips

Minnesota are backed to win the first London game of the season.

The Vikings have done some good things and bad things so far, while the Saints have been just bad.

Offensively they are struggling to protect Jameis Winston and he is already stacking up interceptions.

New Orleans also have a bunch of injury issues, so a Vikings cover looks most likely in London.

Head To Head

  • Minnesota Vikings lead the all-time series 23-13
  • New Orleans Saints won 52-33 when the teams last met in December 2020

Minnesota Vikings Form

Minnesota head to London having won two of their first three games of the 2022 NFL season.

The Vikings opened with a 23-7 win against Green Bay, but were brought back down to Earth by a 24-7 loss at Philadelphia.

They were able to rebound last weekend though, putting up 14 unanswered points in the final eight minutes to snatch a 28-24 win over Detroit.

Through three games QB Kirk Cousins is 74/119 for 758 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Justin Jefferson has been his favourite weapon, hauling in 18 of 29 targets for 246 yards and two touchdowns, while Adam Thielen and KJ Osborn have combined for 261 receiving yards and two TDs.

Dalvin Cook leads the team in rushing with 203 yards and a TD, but his status for Sunday is uncertain due to a shoulder injury.

If he is not good to go then Alexander Mattison (72 yards, 1 TD) will carry the load out of the backfield.

The defense is giving up a ton of yards, allowing 413.3 per game to rank #30 heading into Week 4, but they are doing a better job of keeping points off the board.

Minnesota are allowing 19.3 points per game, and they have also forced at least one turnover in each of the first three weeks.

New Orleans Saints Form

New Orleans cross the Atlantic looking to snap a two-game losing sequence.

The Saints made a winning start to the season as they scraped past Atlanta, 27-26, on the road in Week 1.

They were beaten 20-10 at home by Tampa Bay a week later though, and that was followed up by a 22-14 defeat at Carolina last weekend.

QB Jameis Winston is 73/115 for 858 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions through three games.

Chris Olave has contributed 268 of those yards, while Michael Tomas has 171 yards and three TDs.

Alvin Kamara returned from injury last weekend and leads the team in rushing with 100 yards, while Mark Ingram and Taysom Hill have combined for 193 yards and two TDs.

Worryingly for the Saints they have several of those players on the injury report for this week – Thomas, Kamara, Hill and Jarvis Landry.

Over on defense, New Orleans are knocking on the door to the top 10 in yards allowed per game (323.0).

However, they are in the bottom half of the league in points allowed per game, giving up 22.7 points to rank #19 in the league.

Verdict

Minnesota have underwhelmed over the last two games, but they have the better offense.

They also aren’t dealing with injuries to a bunch of key offensive players, so they are our pick in London.
