Birmingham have already secured their place in the playoffs thanks to a league-best 7-2 record.

The Stallions began the defence of their USFL crown with back-to-back wins, beating New Jersey 27-10 and Memphis 42-2.

They stumbled over the next few weeks though, sandwiching a 24-20 win over Pittsburgh with a 45-31 loss to New Orleans and a 27-20 defeat to Houston.

Birmingham have put that mini-slump firmly behind them over the past few weeks though, winning four consecutive games.

The Stallions started this run with a 27-13 win at Michigan, which was followed by a 24-20 victory over New Orleans.

The wins kept coming as they beat Philadelphia 27-24, and they then clinch a postseason berth with a 38-15 victory over Houston.

Memphis Showboats Form

Memphis find themselves in a ‘must-win’ situation heading into their final game of the regular season, and even that may not be enough.

The Showboats are bottom of the South Division, locked at 5-4 with Houston, one game behind second-placed New Orleans.

The fact they are even in the playoff race is impressive, considering the rough start they had.

Memphis limped to a 0-3 start as they were beaten 27-23 by Philadelphia, blown out 42-2 by Birmingham, and lost 30-26 to Houston.

The Showboats finally got off the mark with a 29-10 win over Michigan, and that sparked a five-game win streak that saw them beat New Orleans 17-10, Pittsburgh 22-0, Houston 23-20 and New Jersey 25-16.

They were unable to make it six-in-a-row though, suffering a heavy 31-3 defeat to New Orleans last weekend.
