Pittsburgh overcame a 2-6 start to finish top of the North Division, albeit with a 4-6 losing record.

The Maulers lost 22-15 to New Orleans and 20-3 to New Jersey, before finally getting off the mark with a 21-13 victory over Philadelphia.

They then bounced back from a 24-20 defeat to Birmingham to beat Michigan 23-7, only to then lose three straight games.

Pittsburgh lost 22-0 at Memphis before suffering back-to-back ‘home’ defeats at the hands of Philadelphia, 37-31, and Houston, 20-19.

The Maulers finished strong though, with a 19-7 win against Michigan and a 26-6 victory over New Jersey sealing a playoff place.

Michigan claimed second place in the North Division, despite losing six of their final eight games to finish 4-6.

The Panthers made a strong start as they beat Houston 29-13 and Philadelphia 24-10, but the wheels soon came off.

A 28-13 defeat to New Jersey sparked a four-game losing skid that saw them lose 29-10 to Memphis, 23-7 to Pittsburgh and 27-13 to Birmingham.

Michigan stopped the rot with a 25-22 win against New Jersey, only to then lose 24-20 to New Orleans and 19-7 to Pittsburgh.

That meant the Panthers had to win their final regular season game, and they did just that as they finally ended their winless ways at home with a 23-20 victory against Philadelphia.
