Australia will vote in The Voice Referendum on Saturday, October 14 to decide whether the Constitution should be changed to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by creating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Known as The Voice Referendum, the Australian public will have their say in the simple yes/no question of whether or not to change the constitution and recognise the First People of Australia.

What is The Voice Referendum about?

The vote is intended to allow Australia to vote yes or no on the question 'A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?'.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Voice would give independent advice to the Parliament and Government, would be accountable and transparent and will work with existing organisations and traditional structures.

The Voice is intended to be set up by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people based on the wishes of the local communities. The Voice aims to represent the communities and will be gender and youth balanced. The Voice is aimed to be community-led, inclusive, respectful, empowering and culturally informed.
