Rishi Sunak is the new favourite to become the next leader of the Conservative Party, according to the bookmakers.

The former Chancellor enjoyed a relatively simple time of things in the latest Tory debate, and the bookies have responded by slashing his odds.

Sunak is now the 5/4 favourite to win the leadership race Ladbrokes - meaning he has leapfrogged Penny Mordaunt.

Mordaunt is now 2/1, while Liz Truss’ odds are heading in the right direction after an impressive performance on Sunday night.

She is now 10/3 to replace Boris Johnson as Party leader.

“Things couldn't have gone much worse for Penny Mordaunt on Sunday night,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told FreeTips.com.

“Rishi Sunak has leapfrogged her into top spot in the betting, while Liz Truss has closed the gap.

“We're now strapping in for one of the closest leadership races we've ever seen.”
