Liz Truss has overtaken Penny Mordaunt in the race to be the next Conservative Party leader, according to the bookmakers.

A flurry of bets on Truss over the last few hours have forced Ladbrokes to slash her odds to just 2/1 - shorter than they have ever been to replace Boris.

As a result she has moved ahead of Mordaunt, who is now out to 4/1 in the betting.

Rishi Sunak, meanwhile, continues to lead the way, and he is now Even-money to take over the Tory party reins.

“In a shock twist this morning, Liz Truss now finds herself hot on the heels of Rishi Sunak, with Penny Mordaunt losing ground on the two new frontrunners,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told FreeTips.com.

“Mordaunt was odds-on favourite in the betting on Saturday morning but now finds herself unlikely to even make the final two in the Tory leadership race, if the latest odds are anything to go by.”
