Bookmakers have suspended betting on who will replace Humza Yousaf as leader of the Scottish National Party.

Yousaf announced his stunning decision to step down as Party leader and First Minister of Scotland on Monday.

Within hours the bookmakers saw a wave of support for John Swinney to take over the reins, and as a result his odds were slashed from 8/1 to 2/1 in a matter of hours.

Ladbrokes has now temporarily suspended the market, believing the job could already have Swinney's name on it.

“It's been a busy start to the week in the world of Scottish politics,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told FreeTips.com.

“And with plenty of punters backing John Swinney to take over from Humza Yousaf, we've been forced to temporarily pull the plug on bets on the next SNP leader.”
