Odds slashed on Rishi Sunak being replaced as PM this year
- Rishi Sunak just 7/2 to be replaced in 2023
- Odds cut from 4/1 following news of Nadhim Zahawi's sacking as Conservative Party chairman
- 5/1 for 2023 General Election
Bookmaker Ladbrokes have slashed the odds on Rishi Sunak being replaced as Prime Minister this year.
Having been a 4/1 shot on Saturday morning, the bookies on Monday morning cut Mr Sunak's odds of being replaced in 2023 to just 7/2 following the news of Nadhim Zahawi's sacking as Conservative Party chairman.
Mr Zahawi had served as Party chair and also as minister without portfolio in Rishi Sunak's government.
He was sacked as Tory Party chairman on Sunday morning after an inquiry by the PM's ethics adviser found he had failed to disclose that his tax affairs were being investigated.
Opposition parties have questioned why Mr Sunak didn’t act even sooner, while some Tory MPs have questioned why the government didn't launch an ethics probe sooner.
10 Downing Street has insisted that it was important to follow due process and have the facts laid out before a decision on Mr Zahawi's future was made.
Elsewhere, it's now just a 5/1 shot that a General Election is called before the end of 2023, with Keir Starmer now just 4/11 to be next Prime Minister.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes told FreeTips.com on Monday: "We're just one month into the New Year and Rishi Sunak already needs a party reshuffle.
"It doesn't bode well for the PM, who has subsequently seen his own odds of a 2023 exit slashed this morning."
