Johnson has stood by Cummings despite his special adviser allegedly breaking lockdown rules to travel 260 miles to a family home in Durham from London.

Cummings issued a statement defending his actions, as well as subsequent trips while in the north-east of England, and Johnson has vowed not to sack the man who helps form his strategies and policies.

Other MPs, including Sunak, have come out in support of Cummings and also defended him during heavy media scrutiny.

Sunak, meanwhile, is 9/2 to be the next British Prime Minister in the latest betting from William Hill. He is second favourite behind new Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer with the pair the only frontrunners in single figure odds.
