Both the Democrats and the Republicans will be confident about putting North Carolina in their win column on November 3rd. There’s little between Joe Biden and Donald Trump in the latest North Carolina Election odds (Democrats 8/11 (1.73) with bet365, Republicans Evens (2.0) at time of writing), although the polling suggests Biden is leading ahead of Election Day.

Early voting in North Carolina has been big. At time of writing, turnout is way up on 2016 (3.1million votes as of October 25 compared to 1.6m early votes four years ago), and the majority of those early votes have been carried out in person.

Based on the information provided by the North Carolina Board of Elections, pre-Election day voting trends suggest the numbers of African Americans voting early is slightly down on 2016, which may benefit the Republicans, but the Democrats will be pleased to see that more women than men have voted early.

Recent polls show Biden with a slight edge over President Trump in the state – 51-47. However, a CBS News Battleground Tracker poll conducted with just over a week until Election Day revealed that a majority of those who have voted early - 61% have done so for Biden.

That same poll found a massive shift in the number of White women with college degrees in North Carolina who are backing Biden. His 56% is a whopping 11 points higher than Hillary Clinton was polling at the last election.

According to CBS, Trump has majority support among those who had yet to vote, however the numbers may work against him on November 3rd.

In 2016, the total number of early votes in North Carolina was just over 3million. We’re already through that total now. 1.6m votes were cast on Election day four years ago, and given the huge number of people who have already cast their vote, the number of ‘on the day’ voters is going to be considerably less this time around, meaning Trump has little chance of picking up as many votes from those waiting until November 3rd.

North Carolina can’t be considered a ‘banker’ for Biden, but based on the current North Carolina Election odds and given the state of play in the Old North State, the Democrats look good value.
