Canberra Raiders vs Dolphins Preview

The last two matches between the Raiders and the Dolphins have gone to Golden Point with Canberra winning both. I'm taking the value for a draw in regulation time again and backing the Dolphins with a +4.5 start.

  • Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has scored 4 tries in his last 3 games for the Dolphins.

Head to Head

The Raiders won the clash against the Dolphins in 2024, winning in golden point off a Jordan Rapana field goal.

The previous two matches have been one in extra time by the Raiders, with the Dolphins winning the first match in 2023 by just six points.

Canberra Raiders Form

The Raiders are 5-2 and have to be extremely happy with where they are sitting right now in fourth on the ladder.

The Raiders strength of schedule has been moderate, but to be fair they have overcome a tough period where they have played just two games in Canberra in 7 rounds of footy.

Canberra have been strong with ball in hand, and have been able to play on the right part of the ground, often due to the superior kicking game of Jamal Fogarty.

The Raiders rank sixth in the NRL with an average of 29.4 tackles inside their opposition 20m and rank third with an average of 28.3 points per game.

Ricky Stuart has named an unchanged side from last week’s victory over the Titans.

Dolphins Form

The Phins are up higher than ever after getting their first ever win over the Melbourne Storm and doing it in devastating fashion. The Dolphins ran riot over Melbourne putting up 42 points to 22, dominating in large portions of the match and forcing mistakes from the Storm.

It is the third win on the trot for the Dolphins, who have begun to find their feet under new coach Kristian Woolf. Even when they were winless, the Phins have been solid in defence and boast the third-best points against record, averaging 19.4 opposition points per game.

Since they have begun to find their flow in attack they have been unstoppable, scoring an average of 36 points per game in their last three games, all resulting in victories.

Dolphins Team News

Max Plath remains the starting hooker with Jeremy Marshall-King still out.

Felise Kaufusi will miss the match with a knee injury and will be replaced up front by Francis Molo.

Verdict

This game could be another Golden Point decider. I'm backing the Dolphins to cover as the underdog and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow to score for the Phins.
