Cronulla Sharks vs Dolphins Predictions

Both the Sharks and Dolphins revel in attack and can be found wanting in defence. I'm backing over the game total of 46.5 points with Cronulla tipped for the victory at home.

  • Cronulla have covered the line in 5 of 6 games as the home team this season.
  • Both the Sharks and the Dolphins average 25+ points in attack this season.
  • 4 of the last 5 Cronulla Sharks games have gone Over the Game Total.
  • A second rower has scored against the Dolphins in 3 of the past 4 games this season.

Head to Head

The Dolphins did a number on the Sharks in Magic Round last season, beating Cronulla 36-16 with the emergence of Valynce Te Whare, who scored two tries with the Dolphins backline simply unstoppable in the match.

Cronulla Sharks Form

After leaking an average of 35.3 points per game in their previous 3 matches, Cronulla finally sorted out their defence against Brisbane in Round 14, beating the Broncos 22-12.

With 71% of the territory in the match, the scoreline should have been bigger to be fair, however, the absence of NSW halfback Nicho Hynes was evident.

As mentioned, the important factor was they only conceded two tries against Brisbane after being poor defensively recently.

The Cronulla attack has been their strength and the numbers are real simple, if they hold their opponents under 30 points they win, as their attack is clinical, especially when Hynes is in the lineup.

Cronulla Sharks Team News

Nicho Hynes comes back into the team as expected with Daniel Atkinson dropping out and Braydon Trindall moving to No. 6.

Braden Hamlin-Uele returns on the bench with Tuku Hau Tapuha missing out.

Dolphins Form

The Dolphins lost consecutive games for the first time this season when they went down in Golden-Point to Canberra at Kayo Stadium in round 13.

It was a big effort in a tough loss for Wayne Bennet’s men as Jordan Rapana kicked the game-tring and match-winning field goal for the visitors.

Missing Felise Kaufusi and moreso Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow on Origin duty, the Dolphins will rue missed opportunities after having the majority of the ball and 47 tackles inside the Raiders 20m.

The Dolphins will play just their third match outside of Queensland this season boasting a 1-1 record with a win against Parramatta in Darwin and a loss to the Warriors in New Zealand.

Dolphins Team News

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow comes back in with Trai Fuller back in the reserves.

Kodi Nikorima returns with Anthony Milford dropping out of the side. Jesse Bromwich is out with a rib injury while brother Kenny takes his spot in the starting side. Felise Kaufusi returns and will start at prop.
