St George Illawarra Dragons vs Canberra Raiders Predictions

The Dragons and Raiders are both on 12 competition points and whoever wins, will likely earn themselves a place inside the top 8. Both teams are horribly out of form though, with their only wins since Round 6 coming against the two worst teams of the past two years – the Bulldogs and Broncos.

  • Both teams have won 2 of their last 9 matches.
  • St George Illawarra Dragons have conceded 28 points per game in the last 9 matches.
  • Canberra Raiders have conceded 31 points per game in their last 10 matches.
  • Canberra Raiders have scored 167 points in their last 12 games in the first half and just 60 in the second half.

There have been 32 games between these teams, with the Raiders dominating. They have won 20 games to the Dragons' 11, with one match drawn.

The Raiders have won 13 of their 21 games played at Wollongong, dating back to 1982. They have a record of five wins from nine games against the Dragons at WIN Stadium. The Dragons have won just four of their last 12 NRL games at WIN Stadium.

St George Illawarra Dragons Form

The Dragons were sitting in fourth place after Round 5, having won four of their opening five games against North Queensland Cowboys, Manly Sea Eagles, Newcastle Knights and Parramatta Eels.

They then lost three straight games to the New Zealand Warriors, Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers before dispatching of the last placed Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Dragons lost another three in a row to Melbourne Storm, Cronulla Sharks (for the second time this year) and the Wests Tigers again, before belting the 2020 wooden spooners and equal last Brisbane Broncos.

Last weekend, the Dragons were dominated by the last placed Canterbury Bulldogs, going down 28-6.

St George Illawarra Dragons Team News

The Dragons have a number of key players out at the moment, but the good news is that four of their five unavailable players will likely return next weekend.

Zac Lomax and Max Feagai are set to return from injuries, while Josh McGuire and Tyrell Fuimaono will have served their suspensions and be available to play.

Cameron McInnes is out for the year.

Lomax has been added to the extended bench this weekend, however, there could well be changes to the line-up, given the Dragons named their side just a day after their last match.

Canberra Raiders Form

The Raiders' campaign in 2021 has been not too dissimilar to the Dragons.

They sat in fifth place after four games, having scored wins over the Wests Tigers, Cronulla Sharks and Gold Coast Titans.

But they then lost five straight games before grimly holding on to beat the last placed Canterbury Bulldogs 20-18 in Round 10.

Heavy losses to the Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters followed, while last weekend Canberra easily accounted for Brisbane 38-16.

Canberra Raiders Team News

Captain Jarrod Croker has barely been seen as he has been dealing with two major injuries and won’t be expected back for several more weeks.

British halfback George Williams has been released by the club just a few weeks ago and fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is out for the season with a neck injury.

Centre Curtis Scott has been stood down for disciplinary reasons and Corey Horsburgh is likely to be sidelined for another month.

Canberra have made only one minor tweak to the side that thumped the Broncos last weekend – Iosia Soliola and Ryan Sutton switching. Sutton starts at lock and Soliola on the bench. Ryan James is on the extended bench.
