Brisbane Broncos are on the verge of the wooden spoon after losing 26-12 to the Eels on Friday.

An ankle injury to star second-rower David Fifita (above) added to the Broncos’ misery at Bankwest Stadium.

It wasn’t a vintage performance by Parramatta, but their deserved victory keeps Brad Arthur's side in the top four.

The Broncos, who have now lost their last 10 games, remain on just three wins alongside the Bulldogs, who recorded a surprise win over South Sydney on Thursday, but their inferior differential means they are now at the foot of the NRL latter.

Brisbane must beat the Cowboys next week and hope Canterbury lose to Panthers if they are to avoid finishing last for the first time in their history.
