Gold Coast Titans vs Penrith Panthers Predictions

Both sides are playing some very attractive attacking football, but it’s the amazing defence of Penrith that sets these sides apart. It’s also an aspect of their play that isn’t being spoken about.

Penrith looking to become the first team to be undefeated after the opening 10 Rounds since the Roosters back in 1996. And they are tipped to do so with a comfortable victory.

  • Penrith Panthers have won all 9 matches this season.
  • Penrith Panthers have won 26 of their last 27 matches.
  • Penrith Panthers have conceded just 60 points in their first 9 games of the season.
  • Gold Coast Titans have lost 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Gold Coast Titans have won 3 of their last 20 games played in Queensland against Sydney-based teams.

Head-to-Head

There have been 21 games between the Titans and Panthers with Penrith dominating, recording 14 wins to seven.

The Titans have kept Penrith to less than three tries just four times, the last of which was in 2016 when Gold Coast still lost 15-14.

Penrith have scored at least 22 points in 15 of their 21 games against the Titans.

Gold Coast Titans Form

The Titans have been inconsistent generally so far this year, although their attack is building some good form.

They’ve scored 28 points or more on six occasions so far in 2021, a feat matched only by the Parramatta Eels.

Their defence though has been very poor over the last four weeks, conceding 140 points – the worst in the NRL during that period.

Titans have lost three of their last four points, but did win 36-28 at Wests Tigers last weekend.

Gold Coast Titans Team News

Ash Taylor is expected to return from his hip injury next week, with Patrick Herbert due back the week after and the suspended David Fifita another week later.

Sam Lisone, Jonus Pearson and Corey Thompson are all expected back by Round 15.

The Titans only change from their side that played last weekend will be the loss of Fifita, who was named to play prior to his appearance at the judiciary, due to suspension. This will likely see one of Sam McIntyre, Erin Clark or Sam Stone promoted into the 17.

Penrith Panthers Form

Penrith have been superb in winning all of their opening nine games, giving them an insane record of 30 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses since Round 25, 2019.

They’ve kept three sides scoreless - the North Queensland Cowboys, Canterbury Bulldogs and the Cronulla Sharks last weekend, and have kept Manly Sea Eagles and the Newcastle Knights to just one try each.

Their wins over Melbourne Storm (12-10), Canberra Raiders (30-10) and Manly (28-16) have been their worst defensive efforts.

Halves Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary as well as winger Brian To’o have been the best players in the NRL so far this year.
