Melbourne Storm vs Penrith Panthers Predictions

It's a repeat of last year's Grand Final and I'm predicting the same outcome with Storm emerging victorious. The Panthers have been a touch off the pace in the finals and that does not bode well facing a rampant Storm side.

Storm are backed to cover the handicap and the returning Josh Addo-Carr is tipped in the tryscorer markets.

  • Melbourne Storm have won 21 of their last 22 matches.
  • Melbourne Storm have won 4 of their past 5 Preliminary Finals.
  • Melbourne Storm's Josh Addo-Carr scored 23 tries in 21 appearances in 2021.
  • Melbourne Storm have won 20 of the last 24 matches against Penrith Panthers.
  • Melbourne Storm have covered the handicap in 9 of their last 11 matches against Penrith Panthers.
  • Penrith Panthers have scored just 2 tries in their 2 finals matches this year.

Head to Head

It was one win apiece in the regular season with the Panthers winning 12-10 in Round 3 and Storm coming out on top 37-10 in an effective Minor Premiership decider in Round 20.

Storm have now won 20 of the last 24 matches between the sides, including a 26-20 victory in last year’s Grand Final.

Melbourne Storm Form

The Storm sealed the minor premiership with 21 wins from 24 games this season, edging the Panthers on points differential.

Melbourne suffered a rare slip up in Round 24 as a 22-10 defeat to Parramatta Eels ended a 19-game winning run.

They bounced back to beat Cronulla Sharks 28-16 and were much too good for the Manly Sea Eagles in the Qualifying Final two weeks ago.

Craig Bellamy's side ran in six tries in another dominant performance as they defeated Manly 40-12.

Melbourne Storm Team News

In the only change from the Qualifying Final win, Storm have winger Josh Addo-Carr back from a hamstring injury.

His return pushes Isaac Lumelume down to the reserves.

Penrith Panthers Form

The Panthers finished the regular season with an identical record to the Storm of 21 wins and three defeats.

But Ivan Cleary's side have been off the pace in their two finals, scoring just two tries to get to the Preliminary Final.

Penrith suffered a surprise 16-10 defeat to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Qualifying Final, and stumbled over the line in the Semi-Final with an 8-6 win over Parramatta Eels last week.

Penrith Panthers Team News

Brian To'o was a late withdrawal last week, but has been named among the reserves and could come into the Panthers side on game day.

Viliame Kikau has been named to start this week, while Tyrone May is on the interchange after a month out with a knee injury.
