Newcastle Knights Form

Newcastle opened their season with back-to-back victories over the Canterbury Bulldogs and the New Zealand Warriors.

They then lost to the Tigers - Wests' only win of the year so far, St George Illawarra Dragons and Gold Coast Titans, before a last minute try by the returning Kalyn Ponga gave the Knights a much needed third win against the Cronulla Sharks in Round 6.

Last weekend, the Knights were outclassed by the unbeaten ladder leaders Penrith Panthers 24-6.

Newcastle Knights Team News

The Knights have a sizeable chunk of their roster out injured at present, meaning there are no changes to the 17 that took on Penrith last weekend.

Lachlan Fitzgibbon could well play this weekend, be it in the NSW Cup competition or from the bench for the Knights.

Edrick Lee and Hymel Hunt are both expected to be available next weekend, with Tex Hoy is expected back from injury the week after.

Bailey Hodgson is out until Round 13 and Mitchell Pearce could be absent until Round 16 with his pec injury. Dom Young and Chris Randall are facing even longer spells on the sidelines.

The Roosters opened the season with two big wins as they beat Manly Sea Eagles 46-4 then the Wests Tigers 40-6.

Sydney went down to long-time rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs in Round 3 as they lost 26-16 in a game where the Roosters lost both of their halves to injury.

They bounced back with wins over the New Zealand Warriors and Cronulla Sharks, before being outclassed by reigning premiers Melbourne Storm in Round 6.

Last weekend, the Roosters beat the St George Illawarra Dragons 34-10, but lost star fullback James Tedesco to concussion in the process.

Sydney Roosters Team News

James Tedesco has been named to play this weekend, but is expected to miss this clash to ensure he has recovered from his concussion.

Joseph Manu is expected to shift to fullback and Matt Ikuvalu to move into the three-quarter line.

Siosiua Taukeiaho is expected to be right to play this weekend. He has been named on the bench, pushing Fletcher Baker out of the 17.

Sam Verrills is named to start at hooker, with Ben Marschke dropping to the bench.

Lachlan Lam is expected back next week, while Freddy Lussick is expected to return in Round 13, around the same time that Billy Smith should be injury free.
