The NRL season of 2023 has already reached the fifth round, and the early leaders in the Dally M Medal race have emerged. The Fox Sports Lab NRL host, Eloise Sohier, is joined by NRL greats, Josh Morris and Chris Lawrence, as well as stats guru Tim Williams, to give their insights into the upcoming weekend’s matches.

In their pre-match analysis, the panel discusses the early leaders in the Dally M Medal race, with the Brisbane Broncos having three players in the top five. Payne Haas, Adam Reynolds, and Rhys Walsh have all started strongly for the Broncos, with Rhys Walsh being the standout performer, having made 10 line break assists in the first three games.

The panel also discusses the possibility of a forward winning the Dally M Medal, with history suggesting that this is unlikely. The last forward to win the award was Gavin Miller in 1988 and 1989. However, the likes of Payne Haas and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui have started the season strongly and could be in with a chance if they maintain their form.

The panel then moves on to discuss the upcoming matches, with a focus on the Parramatta Eels vs. the Sydney Roosters. The Eels have finally gotten their season underway, with a hard-fought win over the Panthers in the last round. However, they will be without Junior Paulo, who is suspended for this match. The Roosters, fresh off a win against the Rabbitohs, are the favorites to win this match, according to former NRL player Josh Morris.

In the second match discussed by the panel, the South Sydney Rabbitohs host the Melbourne Storm. The Rabbitohs have been playing tough football over the last month, with their only win coming against Manly. However, they will be boosted by the return of Lachlan Ilias, who kicked the winning field goal against Manly. The Storm, on the other hand, won against an out-of-form and under-strength West Tigers side and still have a way to go, according to Chris Lawrence. The panel predicts that the Rabbitohs will come out on top in a tight game.

The NRL season of 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting one, with the early leaders in the Dally M Medal race starting strongly. The expert panel predicts that the Roosters will defeat the Eels and that the Rabbitohs will come out on top against the Storm. It remains to be seen if a forward will be able to break the curse and win the Dally M Medal, but the likes of Payne Haas and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui are in with a chance if they maintain their form.
