Parramatta Eels v South Sydney Rabbitohs Preview & Betting Tips
Cementing a top-four position is on the line for the South Sydney Rabbitohs this Thursday when they take on the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium. With the Eels striking form last week, the Rabbitohs will need to work to score the victory and the two competition points.
It has been a dismal season for the Parramatta Eels. Currently 16th on the NRL premiership ladder, their chances of making the playoffs are next to none but there were signs of improvement last week.
The Eels toughed out a 20-14 win over the North Queensland Cowboys and although that form hasn't stacked up well this season, it's a good sign for a club that has plenty of talent on the field but no direction off the field.
Consistent performances are going to be needed in order to prove their worth this season and putting in a big effort against the South Sydney Rabbitohs would be a good start. They are one of the form sides of the competition and if the Eels are on their game, they could push them close.
Bookmakers have the Eels at 3.55, which is a fair price given their form.
South Sydney Rabbitohs
The South Sydney Rabbitohs are shooting for their seventh consecutive win and their most recent loss came all the way back in Round 8 when losing to the Brisbane Broncos 24-20.
Since Round 8, the Rabbitohs have recorded quality wins over the likes of the St George-Illawarra Dragons and the New Zealand Warriors - two teams that were both in the top four at the time. Those wins indicate that the Rabbitohs are premiership contenders and bettors shouldn't look too much into their narrow win over the Titans last week.
Their State of Origin players were making the back-up after a tough game on Wednesday night and the 18-16 performance got a pass mark from us. They showed good defence to hold out the surging Titans to keep the winning streak alive.
The Parramatta Eels and South Sydney Rabbitohs have played each other 29 times since 1998 and the Eels have a 16-12 advantage. The Eels scored victories in both games last season, winning 22-16 in Round 12 and 22-16 in Round 26 by .
Form this season is important, however, as the Eels have won only three from 14 games and the Rabbitohs have won 10. The points difference statistic is the big issue for Eels' backers and it's not positive reading.
The Eels have scored only 194 points and given up 312, whereas the Rabbitohs have scored 338 points and given up only 235.
- South Sydney lead the NRL in line break assists with 47.
- South Sydney leads the NRL in points scored (338), total tries (56) and linebreaks (69).
- Parramatta are third-worst in missed tackles with 456.
- Parramatta have recorded 149 errors this season.
- Parramatta has only a 47 percent winning record at ANZ Stadium.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be looking for revenge after losing twice to the Parramatta Eels in 2017. Both teams couldn't be any more different this season and we're expecting the Rabbitohs to come out in full force.
Damien Cook has been electric at the dummy-half position and expect the talented hooker to lead the Rabbitohs down the field. Greg Inglis hit top form during Game 1 of State of Origin and that play should translate at NRL level.
Best Bet: South Sydney Rabbitohs -10.5 at 1.93
Halftime/Fulltime double: Rabbitohs/Rabbitohs at 1.63
