Parramatta Eels vs Wests Tigers Preview

The Eels and Wests have had some close games recently and this one can go down to the wire again. The draw is possible and offers value, while the Wests are the most likely to edge a thriller.

  • The Tigers have won the last 2 matches against the Eels at Commbank Stadium
  • Wests Tigers have won 50% of their games (4/8) at Commbank Stadium in their last 3 seasons.
  • The last two games between the Eels and the Tigers at Commbank stadium have been decided by 1-point.
  • Jahream Bula has scored 4 tries in his last 4 games.

Head to Head

The Eels and Tigers split the results in 2024 both winning on each others turf.

Parramatta handed the Tigers the Wooden Spoon with a 60-26 defeat in the final round of the season, while the Tigers snatched a 17-16 victory over the Eels earlier in the season at Commbank.

Parramatta Eels Form

This looks like it is going to be another long one for the Parramatta Eels after going down 56-18 to last year’s Minor Premiers the Melbourne Storm in Round 1.

The eels took an absolute shilacking with Melbourne stepping off the gas after leading 46-6 at halftime. I don’t think I have ever seen that sort of halftime score line in my 40 years on this earth.

The Eels got outmuscled in the middle and didn’t have the creativity at the back to service their stars like Zac Lomax. Melbourne ran for 500m metres more than the Eels with 9 linebreaks to 3.

Parramatta Eels Team News

Jordan Samrani will earn his NRL debut on the wing with Jake Tago out of the side.

Shaun Lane will return to the side for the Eels, slotting straight into the second row. Kitione Kautoga will start the match ion the interchange bench with Charlie Guymer being dropped out of the 17.

Wests Tigers Form

The Tigers were a whisker away from a Round 1 upset against the Knights, losing to Newcastle 10-8 after leading 8-0 at halftime.

There were plenty of positives to take out of the game for the three-time Wooden Spooners and none more than the fact that they held Newcastle to just two tries with all of the attacking power they have.

With the injection of Jahream Bula, Staford To’a and Jarome Luai’s former Penrith teammate and captain of Wests Api Koroisau returning, we should see more attack coming out of the Tigers this weekend.

Wests Tigers Team News

Jahream Bula will start in the No. 1 jersey after missing the match last week with a shoulder complaint. Starford To’a is also back from injury and lines up in the centres.

Tigers get another boost with Api Koroisau back from suspension with Tallyn Da Silva making his way to the bench and Tristan Hope dropping out of the side.

This match is set to go down to the wire and is a big chance of a draw at full time. The Tigers do have the edge though and Jahream Bula will score in his first match of the NRL season.
