Head to Head

Penrith have won their past five matches against the Gold Coast, with their latest victory in round 25 last season when they ran over the Titans 40-14.

Penrith Panthers Form

Penrith had lost two games in a row for the first time since rounds 8 and 9 last season, but settled the ship with a comfortable 34-12 win against Souths.

Despite their little hiccup, the Panthers have still been once again the best defensive team in the competition conceding the least amount of run metres (1307/G) and second-least amount of linebreaks (4.1/G) which has them conceding the least amount of points (16.6/G).

The Panthers attack has been hindered by the injury-riddled season of Nathan Cleary who is expected to be fit next weekend for the first week of the NRL Finals.

Gold Coast Titans Form

It has been another tough ol’ year for us Titans fans and it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel after losing the past 4 matches and likely a fifth to close out the year.

There has been some good performances but if Des Hasler can’t work out how to get the team to play defence I don’t see things changing on the glitter strip.

The Titans have conceded an average of 40 points in their past 4 games which has been their problem once again all season long, just as it has been for as long as I can remember.

Their season average of 27.7 points against per game is the fourth-worst in the NRL and that number is not likely to improve this week either.

Gold Coast Titans Team News

Keano Kini returns at fullback with Jaylan De Groot moving back to the reserves. David Fifita will have surgery which moves Klese Haas into the starting side.

Arama Hau will make his debut from the bench with Jacob Alick-Wiencke getting recalled.

Verdict

This game is tipped to stay under 51.5 points, but the Panthers should do enough in attack to cover the 18.5 points as the favourite.
