Penrith Panthers and Sydney Roosters got the NRL finals underway on Friday

The Panthers have now won their last 16 matches

Penrith recorded a thrilling 29-28 victory over the Sydney Roosters on Friday to take a spot in the NRL preliminary finals.

Nathan Cleary scored a hat-trick as the Panthers extended their run of good form, producing his three tries inside a 15-minute period.

The Panthers are chasing their first grand final since 2003, which was the last time the club won the NRL premiership.
