The Dragons are coming off an upset win over the New Zealand Warriors, but the Roosters should have the finesse to execute and take their chances to win the game.

  • Sydney have won 8 of the last 10 regular season games against St George
  • The Roosters have won 4 of the last 5 ANZAC day clashes including a 27-26 victory in 2023
  • 3 of the last 5 ANZAC clashes between these teams have gone Under the Game Total
  • James Tedesco has scored 5 tries in his last 4 games against St George

Head to Head

The Roosters hold a decisive advantage in the head to head numbers against St George, winning eight of the last 10 covering the line in six of those victories.

It was the Dragons who won the most recent match up 24-22 in Round 12 of last year, covering the line as 6.5 point underdogs.

St George also hold a 12-10 lead in the ANZAC Cup since the inception of the concept in 2002.

St George Illawarra Dragons Form

Since the drama surrounding Zac Lomax’s contract talks subsided the Parramatta Eels recruit is playing like the best outside back in the competition. Lomax scored a try, kicked 4 goals, a 2-point field goal and topped the Run Metres for the Dragons at 184m in the win over the Warriors last weekend.

For a team that has been lacking any support to Ben Hunt in recent years it is a breath of fresh air for Dragons supporters but also a reminder of what the team will lose come the end of the season.

Just as they did in round 6 against the Tigers the majority of the Dragons attack against the Warriors in round 7 came from outside the 20m zone with sweeping formations and breakthrough individual performances. It is great to see but also vulnerable if those specific players are shut down or have a bad day.

Sydney Roosters Form

The Roosters kept things very close against the joint competition leaders Melbourne last weekend. Sydney went into the game as favourites and were able to defend well against the Stom allowing only four linebreaks in the game.

The problem being though that they had zero linebreaks themselves and had to work extremely hard to gain any type of advantage over one of the best teams in the league.

Sydney conceded 10 penalties in the game helping Melbourne out of their own half on multiple occasions, releasing the defensive pressure that has made the Roosters such a tough team in recent years.

Joey Manu once again proved he is one of the best individual players in the NRL with dynamic tackle breaking runs and calls are growing for coach Trent Robinson to include him more in the game to take advantage of his strength and skill.

Dom Young and Sam Walker both return this week after missing games through suspension and concussion.

Verdict

The Roosters hold a big advantage over the Dragons since 2019, but the Dragons are the leaders in the ANZAC Day head to head.

The Roosters are tipped tp win by less than two converted tries with the scores being kept low. James Tedesco has fine tryscoring form against the Dragons, expect him to continue that.
