I'm expecting a big reaction from the Blues after the loss at home and for them to come out on top in a tight encounter in Perth.

The Maroons boast a narrow lead over the Blues in head-to-head matches, winning 65 of 122 games with two draws.

New South Wales won the opening two games last year to take the series, only to lose the final game. Queensland have now won two in a row after a 16-10 victory in Game 1 this year.

The Blues were made to pay for three tries conceded either side of half-time in Game 1 as they lost 16-10.

It was a second straight loss for New South Wales having gone down 20-18 to Queensland in Game 3 of the 2021 series.

That was a match that was already a dead rubber with the Blues having lifted the Origin Shield courtesy of 50-6 and 26-0 wins in the opening two games.

Matt Burton has been named to make his debut in the centres in place of Kotoni Staggs with Jack Wighton ruled out due to Covid.

He is one of five changes for the Blues including Api Koroisau replacing Damien Cook at hooker and Jake Trbojevic replacing Reagan Campbell-Gillard at prop.

Centre Siosifa Talakai will make his debut off the bench and Angus Crichton is also on the interchange.

Along with Staggs and Campbell-Gillard, Ryan Matterson has been dropped. Victor Radley, Clint Gutherson and Jordan McLean are added to the reserves.

Three tries in 19 minutes either side of half-time proved decisive as Queensland upset New South Wales 16-10 in Sydney in Game 1.

It was a second straight victory for the Maroons after they signed off 2021 with a 20-18 victory in Game 3 to avoid a series whitewash.

Queensland had suffered 44 and 26-point defeats in the first two games of 2021 Origin.

Xavier Coates, Reuben Cotter and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow are all ruled out through injury.

Murray Taulagi replaces Coates on the wing for what will be in Origin debut, and Lindsay Collins is name as Cotter’s replacement.

Collins starts at prop with Tino Fa’asuamaleaui switching to the lock position to cover Cotter's absence.

Jai Arrow comes onto the interchange, while Corey Oates, Beau Fermor and Reece Walsh are called up the Maroons squad among the reserves.

New South Wales weren't happy with some of the officiating in Game 1 and I'm expecting a reaction on Sunday. The Blues need to win to keep the series alive and I'm backing them to do so in Perth.
