Sydney Roosters vs Manly Sea Eagles Predictions

Manly have been a bogey side for the Roosters, but starting the season without star fullback Tom Trbojevic is a blow for the Sea Eagles. Their 34-point trial match loss also tempers enthusiam.

The Roosters will be wounded by their straight-sets exit from the finals last year, and they are taking to make a statement at the SCG.

  • Sydney Roosters have won 8 of their last 12 matches.
  • Sydney Roosters were the second highest scorers per game in 2020 (27.6 points average).
  • Manly Sea Eagles have lost 8 of their last 9 matches.

There have been 134 games between these two sides, with the Roosters winning only 35% of those matches. They have 47 wins compared to Manly’s 85, while 2 games have been drawn.

Over the last 10 meeting, where Manly have been more down than up, the Sea Eagles still have a 6-4 advantage.

This match will be the first time these sides have met at the Sydney Cricket Ground since the 1987 finals series.

Sydney Roosters Form

The Roosters were sitting pretty in third place going into the last round of the regular season, when they got absolutely destroyed by a rampaging South Sydney Rabbitohs side 60-8.

The Roosters then lost both of their finals games to bow out of the premiership race 2 weeks early.

Sydney lost to minor premiers Penrith Panthers by one point and then to Canberra Raiders by 4 points.

In the pre-season trials, the Roosters scored a 28-22 win over the Wests Tigers and then a 26-20 win over the Raiders.

Sydney Roosters Team News

Boyd Cordner, Victor Radley and Sam Verrills are all unavailable due to injuries.

Halfback Luke Keary has overcome his hamstring niggle to be fit for this game.

Keary will be joined in the halves by Lachlan Lam, while prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has been pushed onto the bench with Lindsay Collins set to start in the run-on side.

Manly Sea Eagles Form

After 11 Rounds in 2020, Manly were sitting in 8th place and looked set to hang onto that spot with a reasonable run home to the finals.

However, they recorded just one win from their last nine games to drop down to 13th place, conceding a lot of points in the process.

Manly played just one pre-season game where they copped a 52-18 drubbing from the Wests Tigers.

Manly Sea Eagles Team News

Star fullback Tom Trbojevic will have a delayed start to the season after his much publicised hamstring injury.

He missed 13 games in 2020, before returning in Round 19, where he got injured again - and was a big miss throughout for Manly.

Lachlan Croker has also recovered from his hamstring strain to take his place in the 17, while new recruits Keiran Foran and Josh Aloiai will both be in the starting 13.

Dylan Walker will start at fullback.
