The Roosters followed a hard fought 22-16 win over the last placed Canterbury Bulldogs with another victory last weekend over the North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville.

Sydney ran out 34-18 winners over the Cowboys to remain fifth on the ladder, although they needed three tries in the final 11 minutes to put the game to bed.

The two wins came on the back of successive losses that dropped the Roosters out of the top four.

The back-to-back losses did, however, come against ladder leaders Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm.

James Tedesco returns after being given last weekend off following his State of Origin exertions.

He slots back into his fullback role with Joseph Manu moving back into the centre alongside Billy Smith.

Josh Morris is pushed down to the reserves, with Ben Thomas added to the extended squad.

Siosiua Taukeiaho has been named on the bench in place of Fletcher Baker after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Newcastle Knights Form

Newcastle's two-game winning run came to end emphatically last week as they were beaten 48-4 by ladder leaders Melbourne Storm.

It was the heaviest defeat of the season for the Knights as they struggled defensively to contain the rampant Storm.

Adam O'Brien’s side had raised hopes of a run to the finals when winning two in a row for the first time since the opening two rounds of the season.

They won 10-6 against the New Zealand Warriors before recording their biggest win of the season with a 36-0 demolition of the North Queensland Cowboys.

Kalyn Ponga and David Klemmer have been named but will need to come through concussion protocol tests to line-up.

Jacob and Daniel Saifiti also face late fitness tests on ankle and rib injuries having been selected to start.

Connor Watson has been given the lock role, but Sauaso Sue is back from a hamstring injury and could be a late switch from the interchange.

Simi Sasagi has been added to the reserves.
