Wests Tigers vs Canberra Raiders Preview

The Raiders come into this clash having won nine of their last 10 games and should be too good for the Tigers, who just one win above the Titans at the foot of the ladder.

Head To Head

Canberra have dominated the Tigers in recent seasons, winning eight of the last nine encounters between the sides.

However, it was the Tigers who emerged triumphant in the most-recent clash in Round 16 last year, with departed halfback Lachlan Galvin scoring a double in a punishing 48-24 triumph.

Wests Tigers Form

An encouraging start to the season is now a distant memory for the Tigers, who come into Round 16 on a four-game losing streak and just one win above the last-placed Titans at the bottom of the ladder.

There's no doubt the additions of Jarome Luai, Sunia Turuva and Terrell May have made the Tigers a more competitive outfit.

But at the end of the day, they will be closer to the wooden spoon than the top eight if they lose this game - and with away matches against the Sea Eagles, Roosters and Warriors to come, they could be in real trouble.

Before last week's bye, the Tigers were last seen in action against the Panthers, putting up a brave fight before going down 18-14.

Turuva was once again lethal on the wing, crossing for his 10th try of the season, while Luai was highly involved, running the ball on a whopping 26 occasions as he tried to make an impact against his former club.

Canberra Raiders Form

Raiders fans couldn't have dreamed for a better season heading into Round 16, with the club looking a genuine chance of lifting a first premiership since 1994.

Canberra kicked off their season in style in Vegas and have gone from strength to strength, heading into this clash with nine wins from their last 10 games.

Kaeo Weekes has developed into one of the most electric fullbacks in the game and ranks second for kick return metres in the NRL, consistently helping the Raiders to start their sets on the front foot.

Hudson Young is becoming one of the most prolific try-scoring second-rowers in recent memory and Jamal Fogarty's kicking game is as strong as ever.

Canberra were last season easing past the Rabbitohs 36-12 before last week's bye, with Ethan Strange and Josh Papalii (in his record-breaking appearance for the club) scoring doubles.

A blow for the Green Machine with Savelio Tamale ruled out for up to three months with a dislocated knee, meaning Jed Stuart makes his NRL debut on the wing.

Hudson Young is expected to back up from Origin duty in Perth on Wednesday night.

Verdict

The Tigers will put up a fight for the fifth game in a row, but the Raiders are masters of the grind and their class should shine through in the end.

Sunia Turuva continues to be prolific in a losing side and can cross for a 11th four-pointer of the season.
