Wests Tigers vs Sydney Roosters Predictions

The Roosters own the Tigers and, given how both sides performed in Round 1, it’s hard to see anything other than the Roosters inflicting more misery on Wests.

  • Wests Tigers have won 3 of their past 14 matches.
  • Wests Tigers have conceded 5.15 tries per game since Round 9 last year.
  • Wests Tigers have lost 18 of their last 20 matches played against Sydney Roosters.
  • Sydney Roosters have won 25 of their last 34 matches.
  • Sydney Roosters were 46-4 winners in Round 1.
  • Sydney Roosters have scored an average 5.14 tries per game since Round 3 last year.

There have been 35 games played between the Tigers and Roosters. Wests have scored just nine wins, while the Roosters have 26 victories.

It gets worse for the Tigers, because in the last 20 games back to 2010 they have just two wins against the boys from Bondi. In that time, the Roosters have racked up some big scores, passing the 30 points mark in 12 of the last 20 clashes.

There’s been just six games between these two teams at Campbelltown Stadium. The Roosters have won four, including the last three.

Wests Tigers Form

The Wests Tigers played two trials, scoring a tight loss to the Sydney Roosters before racking up 50 points against a woeful Manly side.

Sadly that form didn’t continue into the 2021 premiership season, as the Tigers were comfortably beaten 30-12 by Canberra Raiders in Round 1. The score was 6-6 at halftime before Wests were blown away.

The Tigers defence was atrocious in the back half of 2020. In their first 10 games last year they conceded on average 17.7 points per game.

In the last 10 games that almost doubled, blowing out to 32.8 points per game. It was more of the same struggles in Round 1 too.

Wests Tigers Team News

Adam Doueihi returns after serving his suspension from last season and will automatically slot in at five-eighth, pushing Moses Mbye onto the bench.

Russell Packer is the man to drop out of the side. No other changes from the side that played last week.

Sydney Roosters Form

The Roosters season came to screeching halt last year with three straight losses, two of them in the finals as they were unable to win a third straight premiership.

Their pre-season saw them score record six-point victories over the Wests Tigers and the Canberra Raiders before they destroyed Manly Sea Eagles last week in Round 1.

In 63 minutes, the Roosters racked up 40 points unanswered before winning 46-4 in a game where they barely got out of second gear.

Sydney Roosters Team News

Captain Jake Friend copped a heavy head knock last weekend which saw him fail to pass his HIA and cast doubts about whether he will retire.

Boyd Cordner is still unavailable, while Angus Crichton picked up a suspension last week.

Crichton will be replaced in the run-on side by Nat Butcher, while Freddy Lussick will be the hooker.

Adam Keighran injured his wrist last weekend and will miss this game too. Drew Hutchison has been added to the bench alongside debutant Fletcher Baker.
