Australia vs New Zealand Women Predictions

The Trans Tasman rivals have contested the last three World Cup finals. New Zealand won in 2008 before Australia gained revenge in 2013 and defended the title in 2017.

The two victories for the Jillaroos were by 10 and seven point margins and I'm backing this one to follow suit with an Australia win by 1-12 points.

  • Australia are the defending World Cup champions.
  • Australia have won all 4 matches at the Rugby League World Cup by a combined score of 258-8
  • Australia beat New Zealand 10-8 in the group stages.

Australia Form

Australia have been dominant throughout the World Cup, winning three of their four matches without conceding a single point.

The Jillaroos started with wins over Cook Islands 74-0 and France 92-0 before topping the group with a 10-8 victory over New Zealand.

In the semi-finals, it was another one-sided affair with Australia brushing aside Papua New Guinea 82-0 to reach the final.

Australia Squad & Team News

Squad: Emma Tonegato, Evania Pelite, Isabelle Kelly, Jaime Chapman, Shenae Ciesiolka, Taliah Fuimaono, Lauren Brown, Holli Wheeler, Keeley Davis, Tallisha Harden, Shaylee Bent, Olivia Kernick, Ali Brigginshaw, Jessica Sergis, Yasmin Clydsdale, Samantha Bremner, Keilee Joseph, Tarryn Aiken, Caitlan Johnston, Kennedy Cherrington, Kezie Apps, Julia Robinson, Simaima Taufa, Shannon Mato.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand kicked off with group stage wins over France 46-0 and Cook Islands 34-4 to book their spot in the semi-finals.

They were unable to top the group, however, when losing to rivals Australia 10-8 in a tough battle.

That meant the tough of the two semi-finals, but New Zealand took down hosts England with a 20-6 victory to reach the final.

New Zealand Squad & Team News

Verdict

Australia have beaten New Zealand in the last two World Cup finals and also ground out a 10-8 victory in the group stages two weeks ago. I'm backing the Jillaroos to record a narrow victory.
