Queensland vs New South Wales Game 3 Tips

There have been 18 tries scored so far in this series and if the opening two matches and more are in store in a crucial Game 3 decider.

The series is locked at 1-1 with Queensland having home advantage against New South Wales in Origin 3. Will that be the deciding factor?

We've looked at stats and trends and come up with our top five tryscorers for Game 3 of the 2024 State of Origin Series.

  • Both Queensland and New South Wales have scored 9 tries each in this series.
  • Zac Lomax and Dylan Edwards have scored in both matches for NSW
  • Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has scored 4 tries this series
  • Wingers and centres have combined for 50% of the tries in the opening two games.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (Queensland)

If there is one pick on your list it has to be The Hammer. He has scored 9 tries in six Origin appearances for Queensland and has scored 4 tries in this series already.

The Cairns-born centre has been the electric and even found a way to break through and give the Maroons a glimmer of hope in Game 2. The speed of Reece Walsh and even the eventual injection of Kalyn Ponga will help unlock the Dolphins fullback once again.

There is even more motivation for Hamiso-Fidow with the tryscoring record at 5 tries in a series and is definitely in reach to tie or even break that mark with a couple of 4-pointers.

Zac Lomax (New South Wales)

Zac Lomax has made one of the biggest impressions in his first two Origin matches and has lived up to the hype and expectation that was on him coming into this series as a debutant.

The NSW winger scored a double in Game 2 along with a try on debut in the series opener. No matter what the situation is in the match Lomax is going to be on the radar for their playmaker Mitch Moses, either on the ground or through the air, with the St George winger won of the best aerial attackers in the game.

Stephen Crichton (New South Wales)

Playing alongside Lomax on the right of the NSW line, Crichton has been mainly used in this series to contain the attack of queensland and came up big for NSW in Game 2.

Despite lacking overwhelming stats, which did include a linebreak assists and try assist in the second game, it felt like Crichton was in everything and he really lifted and got in the face of the Queenslanders.

The Bulldogs centre is a big game player and he has shown that with four consecutive tries in the past four Grand Finals for Penrith before moving to Canterbury. The stage is set for another big game and look for Crichton to be a game changer for the Blues.

Angus Crichton (New South Wales)

The Crichton-double could be on the cards in Game 3. If there was a player that deserved a meat pie last match it was definitely the NSW backrower Angus Crichton, who looked as dangerous as any Blue on the field.

Crichton’s club form has been clinical and he has crossed the tryline 8 times in his past 8 matches and with Mitch Moses and Jarome Luai well aware of his scoring ability, I think we can expect plenty of short-balls going in the direction of the hard hitting second rower.

Jeremiah Nanai (Queensland)

The Queensland backrower leads all forwards in the NRL with 11 tries this season for the Cowboys, just three tries off the league leaders Deine Mariner and Alofiana Khan-Pereira.

Nanai pinched a try in Game 2 and will be hungary for more in the decider. His record at Suncorp Stadium is a big reason why you should have him on your list with the Cairns junior scoring 7 tries in 6 games at the Cauldron.

Verdict

Outside backs are obviously the go-to but Angus Crichton is a big chance for the Blues, along with Zac Lomax, Stephen Crichton and for Queensland Jeremiah Nanai and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.
