Wigan to face fierce rivals St Helens in the Betfred Super League Grand Final on Friday. The Warriors and Saints were most consistent sides in the regular season and cruised through the semi-finals. A close match is expected at Hull’s KCOM Stadium.

Wigan finished top of the Super League regular season table with a 13-4 record. Adrian Lam fielded a second string side that were smashed 42-0 by St Helens in preparation for the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

It didn’t help their cause as they suffered a 26‑12 defeat to Leeds. The Warriors bounced back with five straight wins.

Victories against Warrington (18-4), Salford (58-12), St Helens (18-6) and Huddersfield (19‑6) secured the minor premiership. Adrian Lam’s side beat Hull 29-2 in the to semi-finals to reach their 11th Grand Final and seventh in the last 11 years.

It was a ruthless display with tries to Joe Burgess, Harry Smith, Zak Hardaker, Jake Bibby and Bevan French securing an easy win. Wigan’s defence was relentless with 37-year-old Sean O'Loughlin celebrating his final home game with a win.

St Helens Form


St Helens finished second on the Super League regular season table with a 12-5 record. They won four straight matches against Wigan (42-0), Wakefield (20-16, 48-6) and Leeds (40-8) with their sights set on the minor premiership.

The Saints lost their final two matches in the regular season to surrender top spot. A narrow 12-10 defeat against Salford was followed by an 18-6 defeat to Wigan.

Kristian Woolf’s side eased past Catalans Dragons 48-2 in a dominant semi-final performance. Saints lost James Graham to a head injury but led 14-2 at half time with tries to Lachlan Coote and Kevin Naiqama.

Naiqama finished with a hat-trick, Coote grabbed a second and Jonny Lomax, James Bentley and Regan Grace went over in a six-try second-half performance.
